Spin Away Review

SpinAway Casino has been operating in Ontario since 2022. They offer more than 1,600 games, including live casinos, table games and slots from many popular game developers. With no dedicated mobile app, can SpinAway compete with the many other casinos available to Ontario players? 

I decided to find out. I signed up to SpinAway for myself and spent a week on the site playing games, making deposits and withdrawals and generally getting under the hood of this site. I’m laying it all out here in my SpinAway review.

I spent some time searching for exclusive features that make SpinAway stand out from other online casinos. Here’s what I discovered:

• A fun outer space theme

• Top notch security, including photo verification on sign-up

• Great variety of games from both popular and newer developers

• A detailed FAQ page with the answers to 30 commonly asked questions

After exploring SpinAway for a while and comparing it to some other casinos in Ontario, I noticed some features that place it ahead of the rest.

For example, the graphics are a stand-out at SpinAway, with an outer space theme splashed across the site. When I think of casinos, I tend to think of bold colors and aesthetics, so I prefer the unique look of SpinAway’s site over more simply designed sites like LeoVegas.

However, as I continued to explore SpinAway, some cracks also began to show. They lack a dedicated mobile app to compete with other casinos that do have one (i.e. most of them). The navigation on SpinAway’s page also isn’t the best, with information often being buried behind several clicks or just unavailable.

Finally, the games on SpinAway don’t offer a demo version like I’ve noticed at casinos like Casumo, which means being unable to just explore a game for fun before betting money.

I found SpinAway to be best suited to the casual player who intends to just drop into a casino occasionally. Their illustrative design is fun, and they have a great selection of games. However, some hard-to-find features and an unusually high number of typos in their website text reduces the professional polish that will attract the more serious player.

Getting your account set up with SpinAway is fairly easy, though you will want to have some photo ID on hand. I clicked on the “Create Account” button to get started.

The first thing I was asked was whether I wanted the quick or manual set-up (I opted for manual). The quick set-up doesn’t require any less personal information, but it will auto-populate the answers from your device.

I entered the following information to create my account:

• Email address (this will also act as your log-in)

• Password

• Phone number

• Full name, as shown on ID

• Postal Code

• Address

• Date of Birth

From there, SpinAway asks for information regarding your work employment such as industry and occupation. It will also provide an option here to include employer contact information and your citizenship, but this is not mandatory to play. It then provides a summary window so you can double-check all your info before hitting “Submit”. 

The final window asks you to read SpinAway’s general terms and conditions, agree or not agree to receive marketing materials, and confirm that you’re fit to play. I clicked “Confirm” and was then taken to the Settings page to verify my identity.

SpinAway asks players to verify their identity by scanning a piece of photo ID, such as a passport or driver’s license. This was fine with me, if a bit time-consuming. I scanned the front and back of my driver’s license and then smiled into my laptop’s camera, and my account was verified within minutes. Finally, I was ready to play!

Although SpinAway doesn’t offer a stand-alone app, you can still play on your phone or tablet by using the mobile web version. It works just as well as the desktop site and has the added feature of being able to use touch-screen navigation instead of a mousepad. You’ll want to remember to change the location settings on your device’s web browser if you haven’t already, to confirm that you’re located in Ontario.

With so many casinos available in Ontario, it’s the little things that can make one site stand out from the rest. So, what makes SpinAway unique in the online casino space? I spent a lot of time exploring SpinAway and here’s what I found:

First, I love how SpinAway offers a creative outer space theme to draw in players. It’s nice to have something visually appealing when playing games, as some casinos focus only on functions with boring white backgrounds. SpinAway really commits to the space theme with a cute astronaut character whose helmet looks like a slot machine, and slogans like “Up, up and SpinAway!” 

I also liked the variety of game developers that are partnered with SpinAway. There are the more established companies like Pragmatic Play and Microgaming, but I also found several new-to-me companies like Alchemy Gaming and Hacksaw Gaming. I would love for SpinAway to add a list of game studios somewhere on the site, to make it easier to explore the full selection.

SpinAway currently offers four ways for Ontario players to deposit and withdraw money. This is a bit less than I’ve seen on other sites, but the reliable methods of payment are all here:

• Interac: This is the fastest way to transfer your money directly from a Canadian bank account. Select this option and you’ll be redirected to Interac directly to complete the transaction.

• Visa: SpinAway accepts Visa credit cards to make deposits/withdrawals. Simply enter the credit card number, expiry date, and CVV number.

• Mastercard: See instructions for Visa above. Visa and Mastercard are two of the most commonly used credit cards in Ontario.

• MuchBetter: This e-wallet is a great option if you don’t want to hand over your banking information. It requires creating an account with MuchBetter and loading money there before making a deposit on SpinAway.

The minimum deposit to play on SpinAway is $10, which is great if you’re not looking to place big bets. The minimum withdrawal amount is also $10. I appreciate the low minimums, which will definitely appeal to casual players. SpinAway takes no additional fees for withdrawals.

A small note: You may see other forms of payment listed elsewhere on the site, such as under the Terms & Conditions. The methods listed above are the only ones that SpinAway accepts on its Ontario site. Because they operate in other regions, I can only guess mentions of other forms such as Neteller or Skrill were carried over in their legal copy, but don’t try to use them on SpinAway.ca. (This is just one of many misprints that I found while exploring SpinAway.)

To add money to your player account, there’s an icon at the top of the screen that looks like a little bank card with $0 next to it (or whatever your balance may be). However, there’s no visible reminder to collect your perks if you do it this way, so you might miss out on collecting an offer. Instead, I recommend clicking on the rocketship icon, where you’ll select the benefit available by clicking “Go to cashier.” In the end, both methods will take you to the deposit payment screen, but clicking on the perk directly is the only way to collect them. I confirmed this with a live chat representative because I found it very confusing.

I deposited $20, the minimum amount, using my Mastercard. It asked for the standard information: card number, expiry date and the three-digit CVV number. 

I do think there can be confusion about the minimum deposit amounts. However, SpinAway also indicates a $15 minimum if you want to pay by credit card, as opposed to $10 for Interac and MuchBetter. It was just confusing enough to be mildly annoying.

After a few days of game play, I withdrew my initial $20 (I hadn’t earned out my benefit yet, but SpinAway helpfully lists your withdrawable amount separately from your total balance.) SpinAway promises to process all withdrawals within 24 hours, but also states that depending on the payment method it can take up to five days to appear in your account. I did see my money returned to my card within two days, which I attribute to my bank’s processing times. 

Overall, although I continued to find the way they present their messaging to be unclear, I had no issue with the way SpinAway actually handled my money.

When you visit SpinAway, you’ll be greeted by a little astronaut character floating through outer space. The outer space theme continues throughout the site with a dark-blue night sky backdrop. This is the kind of fun, personalized detail that puts SpinAway a cut above in my opinion, because it shows they care as much about the player experience as about dollars and cents.

If it’s your first time on the site, you’ll see the benefits taking up most of the page, as well as the link to create your player account. If you’re a returning player, you can simply log in by clicking the link in the upper right-hand corner.

The navigation menu at the top is fairly basic, with a link to the games menu and icons representing Settings, Search, Account Balance. (The Perks icon is a rocketship - more of the space theme!) It’s a little different on the mobile phone version, with most of the icons at the bottom of the screen.

SpinAway’s homepage has just about everything you need to get started, although I can’t help but notice there’s no visible Help or Customer Support link. It can be found by clicking on the Settings icon, but I would love it if it were more prominently displayed so players can access help when they need it.

If you like the convenience of playing games on your phone, you’ll have to rely on SpinAway’s mobile site. Note to players: while researching SpinAway, I found a link on the company’s website describing their app in great detail - however, this app does not appear to be available on either the App Store or Google Play. Again, it’s confusing details like this that detract from SpinAway’s overall professionalism and makes me hesitant as a potential player.

That said, I was able to play around on the mobile website version in much the same way I would on my desktop computer. I tried it both on my iPad and iPhone, and though I liked the iPad better for the larger screen size, I also enjoyed playing on my phone. I didn’t feel like the smaller screen took anything away from the speed and graphics of the games.

I would definitely like to see them offer a dedicated app to be more competitive and allow for the extra features of an app, like pop-up notifications. I’d also like them to remove the misleading information from their web page - although perhaps it’s a sign that an app is in the works.

Our reviewers do a thorough job when it comes to evaluating casinos. We go through the same process as any paying customer, taking the time to set up an account, make deposits/withdrawals, play the games, and contact customer support. Here are some of the things we consider when writing a review:

• Security and Regulation: first and foremost, we only review sites that are licensed by the Ontario Gaming Commission. We take a look at security features such as identity verification, secure banking transactions, and SSL encryption. Responsible gambling is also important to us, so we look for casinos that provide Fit to Play checks at log-in, as well as links to responsible gambling resources. 

• Game Selection: this is the fun part of our job - we spend time actually playing the games that each casino offers. We evaluate how the game selection compares to other leading casinos, and look at things like graphics, loading times, and number of titles. We try to find those exclusive titles and features that can make a casino really stand out from the rest. 

• Customer Support: we will contact customer support directly to see how fast and helpful they are. We check to see if there are a number of contact methods (like email, phone and live chat) and if they’re available in more than one language. We also take a look at the FAQ/Help page to see if it answers common questions.

• Payouts: we know your money is important to you, so we personally go through the process of making deposits and withdrawals. We look for fast processing times, minimum amounts for deposits/withdrawals, and which payment methods are accepted.

Overall Feel: what makes this casino different from all the others? What is the overall playing experience like? We want each casino to provide you with gameplay that’s fun and unique, so we love when they go the extra mile. We explore every part of the website looking for that one special thing that really makes them stand out.

SpinAway Casino is licensed and regulated by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) and iGaming Ontario. Their AGCO license number, OPIG1242639, is clearly listed at the bottom of their homepage for full transparency.

Operating since 2022, SpinAway Ontario is owned and operated by the NGame Group, headquartered in Cyprus. They’re also accredited by eCOGRA, an organization that tests and regulates online gaming software.

Security and certification is one area where SpinAway has done their homework, which is reassuring to me as a player. Trusting your money to a regulated casino is top priority. This includes things like secure encryption and links to licensing regulators, which SpinAway provides. Regulated casinos are also required by law to provide responsible gambling resources, like Fit to Play check-ins and the ability to set deposit limits. SpinAway offers a thorough responsible gaming section with links to ConnexOntario and Gamblers Anonymous.

Overall, SpinAway Casino shows some room for improvement. The biggest opportunity is for them to build an app available on both iPhone and Android. Although the mobile website functions well, a dedicated app provides features like push notifications that are great for players on the go. I really hope that they have plans for an app, if it’s not already in development.

I also would like to see their site organization improve. This includes sub-menus to divide the games and being able to search by a specific type of game. I also think SpinAway needs to offer both demo and live versions of their games, something I’ve seen at every other casino I’ve visited and was surprised they didn’t have.

Finally, I would like to see SpinAway offer more player perks. Perks are the biggest draw for me as a player, and I have to assume they’re a money-maker for casinos. I would have a hard time rationalizing my choice to return to SpinAway when there are other casinos offering regular benefits that could boost my winnings.

SpinAway is a decent option for a player who’s more focused on fun than high payouts. With their outer-space theme, variety of entertaining slots, and low starting bets on many of their games, they’re a good casino for players that are just starting out or looking for casual gameplay.

However, without many perks or special features, there are better options for the serious player looking to really maximize their experience. I’d like to see a VIP program or a daily/weekly added to the site. The lack of a mobile app also works against them in 2024, when so many other casinos have an app component.

I think that SpinAway shows some promise overall, but still needs tweaking to compete in a crowded online space.
